School Improvement and Innovation Plan At-a-Glance 2023-2024

Successful Completion of Algebra by 8th Grade

Goal: By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, 35% of students in grade 7  will meet the criteria for the metric in SOL reporting category strength in Probability Statistics Patterns Functions & Algebra (SOL).

Strategy 1: Improve teachers' implementation of the Framework for Engaging and Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.

Strategy 2: Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 3: Increase systems of support during the school day, after school, and summer to help students achieve success in mathematics.

Middle School English and Language Arts

Goal: By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, our English learners will increase their SOL pass rate from 36% to 41% on the English SOL.

Strategy 1: Maximize daily instruction and practice in word recognition, reading comprehension, and grammar (Lexia PowerUp).

Strategy 2: Utilize small groups and intervention to increase opportunities for students who need more practice to master standards.

Strategy 3: Increase the frequency of formative and summative assessments that include integrated reading and writing tasks.

Positive School Climate: Safe, Supported, Included, and Empowered

Goal: By the end of the 2023-34 school year, students' sense of belonging will increase by 5% from 51% to 56% as measured on the spring SEL screener.

Strategy 1: Building strong systems of support for students through Interdisciplinary Teams (IDTs).

Strategy 2: Utilize advisory to build student to student, student to teacher, and student to school community relationships.

Strategy 3: Increase afterschool and during school programming that reflects students’ interest and opportunities.

Strategy 4: Learning Readiness: Consistently provide instructional and social-emotional supports and scaffolds necessary to access learning at high levels
