Dear Franklin Middle School Parents and Community,

The Region 5 Office is pleased to announce that Dustin Wright, who has served as principal at Olde Creek Elementary School since 2016, has been named the new principal at Franklin Middle School, effective February 3. Prior to his tenure at Olde Creek Elementary School, Wright served as the assistant principal at Daniels Run Elementary School for two years, and as an assistant principal at Fairfax Villa Elementary School following his time as a music teacher and band director at Carson Middle School from 2006-12.  Recently, he has served as an adjunct professor of masters and doctoral courses as part of the Education Leadership program at George Mason University. He has also served on the executive board of the Fairfax Association of Elementary School Principals. As a former band director at Carson Middle, Wright brings valuable middle school experience and familiarity with the Franklin community. As a principal of a school with a Comprehensive Services Site (CSS) and an enhanced autism program, he has proven his ability to provide a clear vision to support students with special education needs, including high expectations for academics and behavior while providing multi-tiered systems of support to ensure student success.

Wright earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from George Mason University and a Master of Arts degree in music from Arizona State University.  He received his Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the George Mason University.  He also holds an endorsement in Educational Leadership and Supervision from George Washington University. In 2018, Wright was named the recipient of the Region 5 Outstanding New Principal award, Northern Virginia District PTA Partner Principal award, and Virginia State PTA Power Partner Principal of the Year award.

Please join us in welcoming Principal Wright to Franklin Middle School!

Sincerely,

Ms. Rebecca Baenig, Assistant Superintendent, Region 5
