Rising 9th Grade Course Selection

9th Grade Franklin Students for the School Year 2024-2025

Timeline for Rising 9th Graders

  • January 5th: Chantilly High School Counselors visit Franklin to speak to students

  • January 11th: Oakton High School Counselors visit Franklin to speak to students

  • Beginning on January 29th: Counselors will visit science classes to discuss high school courses for next year

  • February 6th: Virtual Town Hall for Rising 9th Graders

  • March 8th: Course selections are due (in SIS)

Affiliated High Schools

High School Students who live in the Franklin middle school district will attend one of the following FCPS high schools: Chantilly or Oakton. If selected, some students may attend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. To locate your base school by address, please check the FCPS Boundary Locator Tool.  Franklin Counselors will be working directly with students to advise them on making good course selections for 9th grade.

How to enter course selections in SIS

Log in:

  1. Log into SIS StudentVUE

Make your Course Requests:

  1. On the left sidebar, select Course Request.
  2. To enter course requests, select Click here to change course requests.
  3. Search for each course using the magnifying glass. Enter the course ID and select Add Request.
    1. Search only by using the Course ID. Use the whole course ID number to make sure you enter the correct course.

  4. Save your selections by selecting Add Request.

Choose Elective Alternatives:

*Alternate courses must be added in preferential order.

*All students must select at least 2 alternate electives.

  1. Select Click here to change course requests.
  2. In preference order, search for each course using the magnifying glass and entering the course ID. 
  3. Select Add Alternate.
  4. Save your selections by clicking Click here to change course requests.

Your Completed Requests should Include:

  • 4 Core Classes (English, Social Studies, Math, and Science)
  • 2 Elective Classes (1 class must be a World Language for the Advanced Studies Diploma)
  • Health & PE 9
  • Electives in one of the following options:
    • Option 1
      1. Yearlong elective
      2. Yearlong elective
    • Option 2
      1. Yearlong elective
      2. Semester elective
      3. Semester elective
    • Option 3
      1. Semester elective
      2. Semester elective
      3. Semester elective
      4. Semester elective
